Erdöl und Erdgas - Aufgaben und Tätigkeiten

to english version:

Oil and gas - duties an
d activities

More than 90% of Germany's domestic gas production and reserves are located in Lower Saxony, and around one third for crude oil. Lower Saxony is also the Federal Republic's number 1 energy state when it comes to oil and gas storage. Numerous production and service companies have chosen Lower Saxony as their business headquarters.

The topic of oil and gas is managed at LBEG as Geological Survey in the following core duties:

  • Data acquisition relating to oil and gas exploration and production compliant with the Geological Data Act (in the past compliant with the Mineral Deposits Act) and inclusion in a database for consulting purposes
  • Consulting government agencies, industry and policy makers in questions of oil and gas exploration, production and underground gas storage (pores rock storage)
  • Collective management of interests and providing advice to German states in the field of hydrocarbon geology (Hydrocarbon Geology Alliance, KW-Verbund)

Scientific expertise covers the fields of geophysics, petroleum geology, reservoir engineering, drilling, production and storage technologies.

LBEG publishes annual reports on exploration, production, reserves and storage of oil and gas in Germany, in cooperation with agencies in the other states, forming the basis of information for industry and policy makers.
